4/27/2007 2:28:57 PM -- SuperSherpas Expedition members are getting set up at base camp and will send reports as soon as they are established. Their arrival at the base of Mount Everest was marred by news of the first fatality of the spring season. The death ties in with the whole point of the expedition, which is to provide the world with an education about who the Sherpa people are, how important they are when it comes to climbing Everest and the sacrifices they make in helping others to the top.
Everestnews.com is reporting that Dawa Sherpa, not the Dawa on the SuperSherpas Expedition, died while climbing from Camp 2 to Camp 3 as part of the International Everest Expedition. It sounds like the climber was hit by a falling block of ice and pushed into a crevasse.
