Dear Eric,
Thank you for following the SuperSherpas Expedition. It is fascinating and we hope you will share the web page and its stories with your family and friends. The overall goal of the expedition is to let the world know who the Sherpas are and what they have done. You can help spread the word. Stay tuned for more happenings here on Mt. Everest.
Best regards,
Jerry Mika, base camp manager

Day Log, received May 1 morning (evening at base camp)
April 30
Passang Gyalzen Sherpa and Ongchhu Sherpa left at 4:30 a.m. to Camp 1. They carried tents, gas, stoves and food.
Also at 4:30 a.m., Arita Sherpa and Ang Passang Sherpa went to Camp 2, 21,300 feet. They carried 50 lbs. each with tents, stoves, gas and food and returned at 12:20 p.m. It was incredible.
Mingma Chirring and Dr. Scott McIntosh left at 5 a.m. for Camp 1 to acclimate. They returned at 2:30 p.m.
Apa, Lhakpa, Dawa and Pemba left at 6 a.m. and went to Camp II. Before they left they said prayers and lit juniper. This is a very bad year in the ice fall. We have witnessed major avalanches. It is very hot in the days making it very dangerous. They were very tired when they returned at 4:15 p.m. and we had a big dinner of dhalbat, a favorite of the Sherpas.
May 1
Apa and Lhakpa stayed at camp to rest today with the team. At 5 a.m. Ang Passang and Arita Mingma Chirring and Passang Gyalzen, each carrying 50 to 60 lbs. went back to Camp 2 to take food, more tents and various supplies needed for the higher camps they returned safely at 11 a.m.
Three Sherpas and myself (Jerry) were checked out at the clinic and found out we have giardia, a common thing in Khumbu. We are all taking medication and making sure our water is boiled very thoroughly and everyone is using Purell to clean their hands. Apa and Lhakpa and doing well. We will feel better in a couple of days.
Staci Nix, our team nutritionist, had to go down today. She has been a trooper and has tried so hard. Last night she was feeling very bad and we put her on oxygen and this morning we took her to the base camp medical tent where she received treatment and has gone down to Gorakshep today and will continue down to lower elevations to get better. Our prayers are with her and we feel she will be fine. Please don't worry, many people have to go down a few times to get better.
The Malaysian news and the BBC were here today to interview Apa and Lhakpa. They were very excited to meet the kings of Everest.
Best,
Jerry Mika
