Dear Achu Apa and Lhapa Galu:
This is Pasang Nuru Sherpa from Thamo, but currently living in San Francisco? I understand the Khumbu Ice Poll has become very ferocious and dangerous. Can you give your opinion how the Khumbu Ice Poll changing? I know that most Sherpas do not need to adjust the altitude. If the weather cooperates, when are you two planning to attempt summit? Do you feel different on your own expedition rather then supporting clients?
Pasang Nuru
Thank you for your questions.
Everyday the ice fall changes, it is very dangerous. In some places we have to crawl under big chunks of ice and it is very scary. We do not know when the summit will happen. The weather changes everyday. Keep watching on the website and you will see when we summit.
Yes we do feel different to climb with no clients. We feel very good to be with our family climbing.
Namaste,
Lhakpa Gelu and Apa Sherpa
5/3/2007 10:39:00 AM -- Day Log,
May 3
Today was a very special day as Jamling Norgay — son of Tenzing Norgay, who, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, was the first Sherpa to make it to the top of Everest — came by our camp for lunch and to wish the SuperSherpas team success and say he would be a part of our documentary.
On the logistic side, the support Sherpas went to Camp 2 to take supplies. The team is preparing for their climb to Camp 2 to acclimatize and make sure everything is in order there. Migma Sherpa and Dr. Scott McIntosh will go to Camp 1 and sleep there tomorrow. Apa and Lhakpa will leave on May 5 at 4:30 a.m. to go to Camp 2 to meet up with Dr. McIntosh for medical research at higher altitudes and spend one night.
