The entire SuperSherpas team is heading up to Camp II tomorrow where Dr. Scott McIntosh will continue his extreme altitude testing. “Summit Fever” is growing as one member of the Nepali Democratic team had to be rescued off of the mountain due to high altitude pulmonary edema. The entire team is now extremely healthy due to some great medical assistance from "Dr. Jerry". Tomorrow one of our documentary crews will be interviewing Ang Rita Sherpa, who has made it to the top 10 times. He has climbed all the major mountains in Nepal and Tibet You can read more about him at www.angritaexpedition.com/mountaineer-profile.php
Things are extremely busy at base camp. There are always many projects underway. We are in the middle of doing a fair amount of sponsorship photos while waiting for the weather to clear. These include Marmot, Brunton, ICOM. LaSportiva, Julbo, and EK amongst others. We will be assembling our "secret" beam antenna tomorrow to get ready for the summit push. Our ICOM radios are working incredibly well - clear as a bell- up to camp II and we want to make sure that we can communicate clearly all the way to the summit. " 5 by 9" as we say.
Yesterday the SuperSherpas received a surprising package from Taiwan. Apa has caught the attention of "The Supreme Master Ching Hai". The Buddhist master and philanthropist has an award awaiting Apa's return. Master Ching Hai said "In addition, we would like to make a humble contribution of $5,000 for the Sherpa children living in the foothills of the Himalayas". The letter further states, "Our awards are only presented to show gratitude, and are absolutely unconditional". This brings the total raised by Apa and Lhakpa for Nepali schools to over $10,000 in the past six weeks.

The team has rested and it looks like we have a small window for all to move to Camp 2 on May 6 to spend two nights acclimatizing and doing some medical research on the SuperSherpas. We have had a small group of folks stop by for interviews and small talk. We will keep everyone posted on tomorrow’s progress as Apa and Lhakpa move from base camp to Camp 2.
We haven’t mentioned them on the blog yet, but we started in Lukla on the trek to base camp with three support trekkers: brothers Lance and Rulon Bunker and Claudia Nakano.
Due to various issues with high altitude they were all delayed. We were very happy to see Lance when he made it to base camp. Rulon is getting close and we expect him soon. Claudia has met up in Namche Bazaar with the team nutrionist Staci Nix and they will travel together to Kathmandu and then home to Salt Lake City. Staci worked very hard and was a real trooper, but the altitude took its toll on her. The elevation has also provded too much for Claudia. We are sad to see them have to go home.
