5/8/2007 10:12:07 AM -- Day Log
    May 8
The SuperSherpas team is now transitioning from acclimatization mode to rest and rebuild mode. Up until this point we have been ferrying gear all the way from Camp 1 to Camp 4 in preparation for the summit push. This huge quantity has been distributed according to a carefully constructed plan perfected by Apa and Lhakpa's years of experience.
The logistics of using our assets wisely are fairly sophisticated and take into account what Sherpas are capable of going to what altitude with what weight. Add into that the testing and acclimatization of Dr. Scott McIntosh and it makes for quite the challenge.
Everyone is back in base camp with the exception of Dr. Scott McIntosh and his support Sherpas. Dr. McIntosh made the tough decision to stay in Camp 3 to get more acclimatization time, but gives up a rest and rebuild day at base camp. Only time will tell if his decision was correct. He will return to base camp tomorrow.
The team is trying to expend as little energy as possible while eating as much as possible to maintain strength for the big push. As everyone knows - you only get to climb Chomolongma when she grants permission. The Mother Goddess of Earth has the final word. For the moment she is saying no as the summit winds are over 60 knots (enough to blow you off your feet).
The forecasts for decreasing winds are there, but the confidence level in them is not high. It is time to wait for the winds to decrease and be sure they will be low when the team goes for the summit.
Luckily, as previously stated, the Sherpa people do not lose weight like their foreign clients even though they expend almost double the energy on a daily basis due to the fact that they carry up to 10 times the weight.
Our new "secret" weapon - the Beam antenna is up and has received rave reviews - communications all the way up the mountain is critical in maintaining our goal of "Safety First".
It is time for us to eat and rest. We look forward to Scott's return tomorrow. We sit and strategize and strategize and sit. We are waiting for Chomolongma's permission.
